Precautions : Monitor for hypersensitivity.

Indications/Uses: Reverse transcriptase inhibitor used with other agents in hiv infection; 300mg bd, children 8mg/kg; with or without food.

Interactions : Alcohol inhibits elimination of abacavir. increased levels of amprenavir.

Side Effects : Severe, sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reactions, mimicking influenza, occur in about 4% of patients. fever. dyspnoea. malaise. pancreatitis.
