Precautions : Hypersensitivity. associated with serious haematological side effects and should be reserved for serious infections.

Indications/Uses: Serious bacterial infections such as meningitis, brain abscess and typhoid fever when other antibiotics are not suitable, rickettsial infections; 12.5mg/kg qid, on empty stomach.

Interactions : Decreased effect: phenytoin, rifampicin. increases serum levels of phenytoin, warfarin.

Side Effects : Dose-dependent blood disorders. rarely; aplastic anaemia. overdose may lead to grey syndrome. nausea. vomiting.bone marrow suppresion.leukaemia.
